Public Participation in the Final Round of the Architectural Competition

As part of the final round of the architectural competition, the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation, in cooperation with the city of Halle (Saale), invited public participation on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The results were presented to the jury at their meeting on April 28/29, 2025, and formed an important part of the discussion and decision-making process. On April 30, 2025, the decision of the jury session was announced at a press conference.

On April 22, 2024, an interdisciplinary and international realization competition was launched with 126 architectural firms from around the world. The aim was to develop a scalable architectural overall concept with international appeal for the Future Center and its outdoor facilities in a central location at Riebeckplatz. This concept should reflect the work of the institution and be pioneering for sustainable, energy-optimized, and climate-friendly construction.

The public participation in the architectural competition was an essential part of the Future Center’s program. Due to public interest and high social relevance for the people in Halle (Saale) and the region, the public participation took place on the day before the jury session.

The federal government estimates construction costs at 200 million euros. The building at the redesigned Riebeckplatz is scheduled to be completed in 2030.
