On April 28 and 29th April 2025, the jury will convene in Halle (Saale) to decide on the winners of the open two-phase architecture and landscape architecture competition for the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation. 24 firms qualified for the second phase of the competition.

The international realization competition for the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation is entering the final stretch. On April 28 and 29th April, the jury will meet in Halle under the chairmanship of architect Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir to select the winning design. 24 planning teams qualified for participation in the second phase of the competition. Prior to the jury session, on April 27, selected citizens of the city of Halle will have the opportunity to evaluate the designs. Their vote will be incorporated into the jury’s decision. The result of the jury’s decision will be presented on April 30.

The interdisciplinary competition is being conducted by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR). The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) is the client for the Future Center. The Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany is responsible for the operation and content development of the Future Center. For this purpose, the Zukunftszentrum gGmbH was established in Halle as an operating company with federal participation.

A building with over 14,000 square meters of usable space for exhibitions, events, and science is being planned. The Future Center will focus on the changes after reunification as well as current and future transformation challenges in Germany and Europe. Based on the areas of science, culture, and encounters, discourse and knowledge transfer are at the center.
