Decision in the Architectural Competition for the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation

On April 28 and 29, the jury met in Halle under the chairmanship of architect and professor Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir to select the winning design.
In the second phase of the architectural competition, 25 firms and working groups were invited to submit their designs. On April 27, citizens of Halle were able to view and evaluate the designs after prior registration. Their vote was incorporated into the jury’s decision, which was announced on April 30 during a press conference.

The architectural competition was conducted by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR). The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) is the building owner for the Future Center.

A building with over 14,000 square meters of usable space for exhibitions, events, and science is being planned.

Experience the 3D Model of the Winning Design Live for the First Time

We cordially invite you: For the first time, all interested parties can see our architectural face live as a 3D model with surroundings! On Sunday, June 1, starting at 11 AM, we will present the original winning design together with the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung and EVG Halle-Investvision in the MZ’s Glass Office at Halle Central Station.

Discover the details of our future building up close: the green roof terrace with a bar at almost 60 meters height and the characteristic outer shell with solar panels. How will the Future Center look at Riebeckplatz? The model gives a good impression.

Political decisions affect young people – today and tomorrow. Their participation and representation are essential for a democratic society, which is why we, as the Future Center, support the Youth Policy Days in Berlin.

Since 2017, the event organized by Jugendpresse Deutschland, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, has offered young people between 16 and 27 years old the opportunity to network and develop and exchange ideas and solution strategies for youth-relevant policies every two years. We are happy to support this. Because: Discussing, exchanging ideas, and gaining new insights – that’s exactly what we want to do at the Future Center as well.

Under the motto “Building Diversity”, Architecture Day 2025 will take place, including our exhibition of competition entries at the Saline in Halle

The Future Center team is proud that the exhibition of competition entries is a component of Architecture Day 2025 in Saxony-Anhalt. The Chamber of Architects of Saxony-Anhalt writes in their entry for Architecture Day:

“The presentation shows the necessary change that the architectural community is preparing and embarking on for building today for the future. Sustainability was an important criterion for the planned federal construction project […] The results reveal the different approaches to implementing a spatial program of 14,000 square meters of usable space in a complex urban and traffic situation. With its decision at the end of April 2025, the jury has laid the foundation for sophisticated, future-oriented architecture in the midst of a new public park.” More information at: www.ak-lsa.de
