A Place for Encounters

The Future Center creates space for exchange, recognition, and collective reflection on what has been – and what is to come.

People in East Germany experienced profound changes. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, they have carried the social transformation – at work, at government offices, at the dinner table. Yet many people still feel that their experiences are not seen. Not addressed. Not asked about. The Future Center aims to change this.

Here, a space is being created where people who rarely meet otherwise come together: from science and culture, from politics and society, from urban and rural areas, from East and West. There are no finished truths in this space. But open questions: What has shaped us? What connects us? What separates us – and what do we make of it?

The center invites exchange. To listen and to tell. And also to debate – openly, honestly, at eye level. The focus is on a dialogue that takes differences seriously. That sparks curiosity about other perspectives, creates understanding and builds bridges – between memories and expectations, between generations and opposites, between what was and what can be.

Exchange becomes impact: In the Future Center, encounters, research, and culture interlock closely and dynamically. Everyday experiences meet scientific expertise. Insights flow back into public debate. And conversations become impulses for society and politics.

Whether dialogue or debate, workshop, conference, or moderated experiential space: The Future Center will develop formats that invite participation. Young people in particular should receive impulses here to help shape their future.

And it starts now – long before construction even begins at Riebeckplatz. The Future Center team has moved into offices in the heart of Halle and is networking with initiatives, associations, and engaged people locally – and far beyond. Initial events and program ideas are already taking shape.
